TECHNICAL DIRECTOR INTERNSHIP
Summer 2008
Curious Pictures is a diversified entertainment company dedicated to fun and creative
expression in all shapes and forms. We are located in the heart of downtown NYC.
Curious directors, designers, artists, and animators create and produce television
programs, commercials, on-air graphics, toys, and games for audiences worldwide.
RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES
- Research and Development in delivering game-ready art assets and animations
from Maya into game engines.
- R & D in repurposing hi-res ‘Animation-quality’ assets for use in real-time
engines.
- Experiment with the game development process in Panda 3D and document
findings.
REQUIREMENTS / DESIRED SKILLS
- Ability to model and texture in 3D.
- Computer Science/Programming background.
- Interest in video games and animation.
- Technical background in Maya. Knowledge of rigging and ZBrush a plus.
- Knowledge and/or awareness of the limitations placed on game and asset design
by real-time systems.
- Experience with game engines and game design (Flash, Director, or any game
engine). Experience with Panda 3D a plus.
- Experience with scripting and programming is needed:
• Perl, Python, and/or MEL are highly desired.
• Javascript, C++, shell scripting are a plus.
- Need to take direction and criticism gracefully.
- A sense of humor is mandatory!
- ABSOLUTELY *MUST* BE A TEAM PLAYER!!!!

• Video I/O, various tape formats (DigiBeta, Betacam SP, 3/4”), various video compression

Programmers @ Disney (Utah)

Disney Interactive Studios offers a fun, creative, and technically rewarding environment with excellent compensation and a full range of benefits. We are located in Salt Lake City, UT and have a need for a Shader Programmer.
Programmer that will be part of the look development team, works tightly with artists and engine programmers to achieve a visual look. Writes vertex and pixel shader programs to achieve that look, producing code to perform things such as lighting, water, fog, skin, fur, bloom, depth of field, etc. Must work well with others and take direction, but must also have a personal sense of aesthetics and take initiative. Five years of related experience preferred. Strong math skills desired as well as the ability to read and implement papers from research (eg GPU Gems, SigGraph, etc). Must have a passion for graphics. Must be able to understand performance issues and create solutions that are a balance of quality and speed.

BS degree in Computer Science, or Masters preferred
additional skills: OpenGL, DirectX, previous work on console games(ps3,Xbox,ps2), C++, understanding of 3D graphics preferred.

Joshua Mosley’s Dread exhibited in 2007 Venice Biennale

Dread, recent work from Penn Associate Professor of Fine Arts Joshua Mosley, is currently exhibited as part of the seminal Venice Biennale. Mosley’s work is a synthesis of sculpture, mixed-media animation and narrative. A fascinating glimpse into part of the process behind Dread provides insight into his innovative mixed-media treatment.

Hitotoki

DMD alumnus Craig Mod has launched a new web project, Hitotoki.

Hitotoki - noun 1. a single moment; one’s moment; a point in time.
hitotoki.org is a new literary site collecting stories of personal, singular experiences in Tokyo.

Since graduating, Craig has developed and launched the pioneering daily info-mapping project Buzztracker (with help from fellow graphics alumnus Bjoern Hartmann), co-founded independent publisher Chin Music Press and designed several gorgeous books.
